Redemption

oh my! it's been waaaay longer than i thought since i last posted.  not that there has not been plenty going on, but i certainly have had time to post SOMETHING!  well, more on that later.  more importantly, i found the love of my life last night.  no, not another Nacho!  but check this girl out!
she is a gen-u-ine MCM (mid-century modern) Danish Modern Teak set!  and she was left sitting by the curb waiting for her prom date.  she even had to sleep outside!  oh the humanity!  well, since i have never fully recovered from my Regret......there was no way i was going to let this happen again!  no way! so i texted the 2 people i knew i could depend on for a rescue & one of them was able to take this girl in!  it's sickening what i paid for her - about 6x less than she is worth!  although i would have loved to have kept her for myself, you simply cannot rescue every stray.  but you can find good homes for them!
and you can see, she's not in perfect shape, but certainly doing well for her age!  and Terry says i can visit her whenever i want - i hope he doesn't check the bushes for me nightly!  that would be embarrassing.
so while our time together was brief, i know i will see her again, and probably in the lifestyle she is accustomed to!
so long Danni!  until we meet again!

Regret

you know how people say "when you see something you like, you better go after it!"  well, they are right!  and i am disgusted with myself over this little baby here!
i saw it 1 week ago today in the Habitat Restore.  actually, i saw 3 OF THEM!!!! and i did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT IT!!!  i am hating myself right now because it is the exact chair i was looking for to put in the office/spare bedroom remodel.  think they'd question me much if i just walked up and said "Hi!  I'm SoNSo here to pick up my chair".  that would make for one embarrassing mug shot!

**Update**
it turns out Crate & Barrel sells a similar chair (Sasha) on their site for $530.  it's probably best that Restore could not tell me how much each of theirs sold for.

Paper Chase

if it's not obvious to anyone but me, let me tell you, this office remodel is going to take a while.  the first place to start in any redo, is to go through what you have & get rid of what you don't want/need.  in the kitchen, that was easy!  the office?  not so much!
yesterday Nacho & i committed to spending 1-2 hours going through as much of the paper as we could (without losing our minds) & getting rid of unnecessary stuff.  how do we accumulate so much when we do so much online?  what you see above is an ordinary recycle bin, a typical office garbage can, and an 8-gallon bucket full of paper from mostly 2 places:  our investment notebook & our 1 file cabinet/box.
we started going paperless years ago.  we've differed about what to keep & what to throw away & we know the prevailing guidelines out there but we battle one important concept that most households probably don't:  Nacho works in Environmental where they live "cradle to the grave".  that means he throws NOTHING away at work.  we've spent the last 2 years debating how to handle this at home - we considered buying an all-in-one scanner/printer/fax so we could scan it all. but i have convinced him that we can just box it up & store it.  no need to purchase yet 1 more piece of technology that (a) takes up space, (b) we won't use after that initial scanning job, and (c) i'll be responsible for throwing in the river after the 1st time it doesn't work - I HATE TROUBLESHOOTING PRINTING DEVICES!  word to the wise:  your printer doesn't work....get rid of it & commit to saving a tree.  it may save your marriage!
so that is round 1 of sorting through the paper clutter.  i'm pretty sure there will be a round 2 and 3 at the very least!  who knows?  there might be an office under all that paper!

A New Year New Projects

anyone want to guess what our next project is here?  WARNING:  this is not staged!  it really does look like this!  GRAPHIC PHOTOS AHEAD!

makes your eyes bleed doesn't it?  and this is after i've done a little cleaning!  seriously!  they say it gets worse before it gets better.  it's about to get WAAAAAY worse people!
our office was the first room we tacked when we moved in back in 2001.  hard to believe that looking at it now.  but once upon a time, this room had cotton candy pink walls, grey-purple carpet & a purple-ish ceiling.  i know! why on earth would i ever get rid of it?
it's time has come around again.  oddly enough this is right in line with some of the design blogs I frequent.  the themes in the last week have been about bloggers getting their office spaces organized.  i'm right there with them.  mine will be no small feat!  you know how some people have that counter top or drawer where everything seems to get dumped?  you are looking at my counter top/drawer.
i would never imagine blaming it all on Nacho - okay i can imagine it!  but i am just as much to blame as he is.
after redoing the kitchen in 2011, we made a decision to completely revamp it this year - wow, it does not seem like it was really that long ago!  for the safety of our marriage, i gave us 2012 off so we could take a break from decision after decision & decide what we wanted to do with this room.  as per usual, we still haven't made up our minds & i've pinned waaay too many ideas.
ugh!  so now I have to put Nacho's money where my pins are.  i may need to be committed after this one though!  so i'm off in search of some easy online room layout tool.....and gathering a few more pins! shhhhh
